The two houses were built in the 1870s and were superb examples of Victorian villas, with grand rooms, detailed plasterwork and elegant large windows. In the early 20th century they had been acquired by St Margaret’s School, who used them as additional classrooms, and annexes were added to extend the buildings in 1930 and 1983.
In restoring the two main houses we conserved, repaired and reinstated the traditional features, but added modern kitchens and bathrooms to provide a dramatic contrast within the generous interiors. The annexes became separate contemporary homes, with Hunter Cottage forming a one bedroom house and Muirhead Lodge a three bedroom home.
